Show Me the Way to the Next Whiskey Distiller: The Craft Distilling Boom and Distilleries as a Destination

The last 5 years have seen an explosion in the Craft Distilling Industry that mirrors the boom in other craft food sectors. However the distilling industry faces unique challenges ranging from more stringent laws and regulation to a much lower level of public awareness in comparison to craft beer for example. Nonetheless, craft distilleries are opening at a phenomenal rate and one can now visit distilleries throughout the country, particularly here in New York. The industry has been embraced by tourism and economic development officials not only as a creator of jobs and revenue but as a potential draw for visitors. This panel will discuss the growth of the industry, traveling to and visiting distilleries, and the industry’s place in the travel industry and how they are embracing their new status as a destination.
