Yolanda Sangweni is a South-African born writer/editor and cultural curator. Currently, she is the entertainment editor of ESSENCE.com—the online portal of ESSENCE Magazine—and the founder of afriPOP, an online destination highlighting what’s new and what’s next in global African culture. afriPOP! recently co-presented After Afropolitan, a month-long exhibition probing contemporary African diaspora experiences and the socio-economic, cultural and aesthetic equity of the so-called “Afropolitan” identity. Prior to joining Essence, Yolanda worked as a Features editor at TRACE Magazine and contributing writer for Arise Magazine. Her works has appeared in Harper’s Bazaar, Time Out New York, O: The Oprah Magazine (South Africa) and Glamour.
